ABSTRACT
Obesity is a leading risk factor for the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D), creating a global health crisis. Insulin resistance, characterized by the inability of cells to respond to insulin effectively, is at the core of both obesity and T2D pathophysiology. Traditional treatment strategies often fail to address the root causes of these conditions, focusing mainly on symptom management rather than the underlying molecular mechanisms. Nanotechnology-based interventions present a promising solution, offering the ability to precisely target molecular pathways that drive insulin resistance, regulate lipid metabolism, and modulate inflammatory responses. This review explores the application of nanotechnology in addressing obesity-associated insulin resistance and halting the progression of diabetes. We examine innovative nanocarrier systems, drug delivery technologies, and biomolecular modulation strategies that can directly target adipose tissue, muscle, liver, and pancreas, which are key organs involved in the regulation of glucose homeostasis. Additionally, we discuss the clinical potential, challenges, and future directions for the integration of nanotechnology into the management of obesity-related insulin resistance and diabetes.
